Franklin County is located in the east-central region of the state of Missouri on the banks of the Missouri River. The county’s population is approximately 102,000 and is made up of the cities of Berger, Gerald, New Haven, Pacific, St. Clair, Sullivan, Union, and Washington, as well as fifteen communities and census-designated areas.
Franklin County enjoys a seasonal continental climate with changing seasons that generate hot, humid summers and cold, occasionally snowy winters, making Franklin County a beautiful place to be no matter what the season of the year!
The area was settled in the late 1700s by family members and followers of Daniel Boone who arrived in the region in 1799. The county was established in 1818 and later became an important railroad and steamboat transportation center. Today the economy of the county is driven primarily by the manufacturing and trade industry, along with a significant contribution from the local wineries and vineyards.The Franklin County Fair, which is the official 4-H fair for the county, is held annually in the city of Union. The county also operates several parks and recreational areas, including International Friendship Park, Krog Memorial Park, the Meramec Conservation Area, and the Missouri Botanical Garden Arboretum.
Franklin County is a combination of rural farmland and well-kept homes that are punctuated by the scenic Missouri and Bourbeuse Rivers.
