About Pacific - Happy to serve you!
The city of Pacific is located in the Missouri counties of Franklin and St. Louis approximately one half-hour southwest of the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. The city was first settled in 1820 and became known as the town of Franklin in 1852. The arrival of the Atlantic-Pacific Railroad in 1853 brought about significant changes to the community and sent the growth of the city into a spiraling ascent. The town later elected to change its name to Pacific in honor of the railroad and received official incorporation as a fourth-class city of Missouri in 1859.
Pacific enjoys a seasonal continental climate that brings changes to the weather with the changing of the seasons. The city’s hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters make Pacific a beautiful place to be any time of the year!
The city of Pacific was built along historic Route 66, and although many of its buildings were destroyed during the Civil War, several of the original downtown buildings still stand today. The Red Cedar Inn was built in 1934 by brothers James and Bill Smith and was run continuously under the proprietorship of succeeding first, second and third generation family members until its closure in 2007. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. For more on the history of the city, the Meramec Valley Historical Museum contains exhibits relevant to Pacific and the surrounding Meramec Valley.
The residents of Pacific are proud of their city and enjoy the benefits of living in a small, family-oriented community that is within striking distance of the urban advantages and conveniences of the city of St. Louis. Pacific residents are known for their community involvement, as evidenced by the participation of many of the city’s clubs and organizations in community sponsored projects. The Kiwanis Club of Pacific was recently honored for its participation in the purchase and installation of playground equipment for the city park. Other community organizations that participated in the project were the Pacific Presbyterian Church, Pacific Area Chamber of Commerce, Gerald Rulon Memorial Fund, Pacific Lions Club, and the Pacific Eagles Auxiliary.
With its proximity to the city of St. Louis, Pacific has become firmly established as a favorite bedroom community for St. Louis commuters. You won’t find a nicer city anywhere for peaceful community living than Pacific!
