About Gray Summit, MO - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Gray Summit is a community located in northeastern Franklin County on Interstate 44 approximately forty miles east of the city of St. Louis, Missouri.  The area was founded by Daniel Gray who migrated here from New York during the mid-1800s and built a hotel in the area in 1845.  The community was located at the highest point of the Missouri Pacific Railroad midway between the cities of St. Louis and Kansas City where a railroad tunnel actually runs beneath its center, hence the name Gray Summit.  The community currently has a population of around 2,500 people.  Gray Summit enjoys a continental climate with regularly changing seasons that include hot, humid summers and cold, occasionally snowy winters, making Gray Summit a beautiful community during any season of the year!

Gray Summit is the site of the Shaw Nature Reserve, a popular cultural attraction with both tourists and residents.  The reserve is an extension of the Missouri Botanical Garden and includes 2,500 acres of plant collections in natural Ozark surroundings.  The reserve is an important research and educational facility for environmental and ecological studies.  The reserve is visited by thousands of students each year who participate in the workshops and outdoor classrooms sponsored by the center.  The property contains thirteen miles of hiking trails that meander and weave their way through a full assemblage of Ozark Border landforms.  The Joseph H. Bascom House, a red brick two-story home built in 1879 by former Confederate Colonel Thomas William Bouldin Crews, contains exhibits detailing the centuries old relationships shared between humans and the land in the eastern region of Missouri.

Purina Farms is also located in Gray Summit.  The farm covers thirty acres and is home to domestic pets and barnyard animals of all kinds.  The visitor’s center has a hands-on petting area and provides opportunities for children to ride in a tractor-drawn wagon or work their way through hayloft tunnels.  The event center is a state-of-the-art competition and performance arena that features entertainment performances, as well as some of country’s most prestigious dog and kennel shows.

The community of Gray Summit is proud of its small-town heritage and enjoys the benefits of small-town living while sitting within striking distance of the convenience and advantages of the St. Louis metropolitan area.
